SMALL AND BIG RIVERS

The province of Chaco is crossed by plain rivers with banks of forest or jungle, of various proportions. A large part of the rivers preserve their natural flora and fauna, with some presence of fishermen, especially in the Paraná River.

Weather

The climate is subtropical without a dry season, with an annual average of between 1,000 and 1,200 mm of rainfall and a temperature of 22 ° C, typical of the Eastern Chaco. Two very different environments are observed: the so-called Ituzaingó Formation and the Paraná-Paraguay trench. The first is a singularity considered by geologists as a relict of the Corrientes relief with very rare relief amplitudes in Paraná; This is the site that earned the attention of the first Spanish sailors. The rocky outcrop located in the extreme north was assimilated to the Corrientes margin of the Paraná River, and they would be detachments from tectonic movements of the Upper Miocene that dismembered the Corrientes outcrop. The rest of the island has a relief with low water evacuation capacity and impervious soils, forming an environment not very conducive to human settlement. However, the flora is highly resistant to variations in the water level produced by the different levels of rainfall throughout the year.
